The most beautiful greens all in one valley: golfers in the Engadin should really wear blinkers – so as not to be distracted by the stunning scenery during a crucial shot.
The prophets came to the mountain
At the end of the 19th century, English spa and holiday guests prompted the mowing of an 1,860-metre- stretch of mountain meadow to form a fairway. The first 9-hole golf course in St. Moritz was created in 1891. This was followed in 1892 by an 18-hole course in Samedan, for many years the highest in Europe. The Engadin Golf Club was founded in 1893, joined in 1902 by St. Moritz Golf Club to form the oldest golfing association on the European continent. The Samedan Golf Club came next, followed by the Zuoz Golf Club in 1998.
Today, Engadin St. Moritz is the golfing paradise of the Alps – with 5 courses and over 60 holes. Each course is unique and a world of its own. The Zuoz-Madulain 72-par course is distinguished by its challenging layout in undulating, wooded terrain. The classic 18-hole course in Samedan is just a 20-minute drive upriver.
A further 10 minutes to the west, the 9-hole Executive Golf Course at Kulmpark St. Moritz enjoys an incomparable scenic setting at 1,860 m altitude. In 1891, the oldest golf course in the Alps, maybe even on the continent, was established in this area. The Golf Academy with another six greens and driving range nestles on the idyllic plain between the Silser and Silvaplaner lakes. The fifth course is located at the foot of the majestic Tarasp Castle near Vulpura in the Lower Engadin.
