Inn Bike Path

The bike path along the River Inn from Maloja to Passau runs from the two and three thousand-metre-high mountains in the Engadin and Tyrol to rolling hills on the lower Inn in Bavaria and Upper Austria. The contrast in scenery along this lovely river makes the bike tour an exceptional natural experience.

In the Engadin, the Inn leaves Lake Lunghin as a mountain stream. Along its course, bikers can marvel at bizarre rocky mountains, wide high-plateaus and lakes.

The Inn continues its path over the Austrian border and through the Tyrol. On some stretches it appears as wild as the craggy mountain peaks along its course. The Tyrolean towns are just as varied as the landscape: Hall, Schwaz and Innsbruck are particularly attractive.

The Inn leaves the Alps in the Upper Bavarian foothills and flows through a rolling landscape. In Bavaria, the Inn Bike Path leads through a moated castle that seems to stand on an island and through Altötting, a centre of religious tradition and well worth a visit. Bad Füssing has a modern thermal spa and the old bishop town of Passau is noteworthy for its numerous cultural monuments.

Last but not least, Inn bikers reach Upper Austria, known as “Austria in miniature” because it combines all the attractions of the Alpine republic in a compact area. The pretty towns and villages in this region, such as Braunau, Obernberg and Schärding make a fitting finale to a biking holiday.

Length and characteristics of the Inn Bike Path
The Inn Bike Path from Maloja to Passau is about 530 km long. The route is mostly on special biking paths, farm roads, side streets and main roads with little traffic. The route is not surfaced along its entire length but has long gravelled sections. Use of touring bicycles or mountain bikes is thus recommended.

Signposts
The Inn Bike Path is mostly but not completely signposted. Signs for Cycling Route No 6, the Graübunden Route, are found between St. Moritz and Martina. "Inntal-Radweg" signs are installed on the section in Tyrol. In Bavaria and Upper Austria, signs carry green symbols on a white background and panels showing "Naturerlebnisweg Unterer Inn".
