Curling

A kingdom for curlers: the Engadin offers countless ice rinks – open air! It was probably one of the first Scottish winter guests who sent four pairs of curling stones to tourism pioneer Johannes Badrutt in St. Moritz. The innovative hotelier was searching for alternative winter activities for his guests and immediately had sufficient “hot-water bottles” made so that in 1880 the game could be taken up. Curling had arrived in the Alps!

Today more than ever, the cradle of Swiss curling is an excellent training and competition venue. The reason is not only its history but also its first-class conditions.

Up here, ice is guaranteed in the open air. The numerous curling clubs take care that the ice is in good order and that rinks and houses are perfectly prepared for the groups of ice tacticians. And what’s more: trial lessons are available throughout the valley to anyone wanting to try out this team sport and catch the infectious curling bug.

Curling rinks are found at the following locations:

  • St. Moritz
  • Celerina
  • Samedan
  • Silvaplana
  • Sils
  • La Punt

Please ask at your nearest tourism information point for the exact opening times of the rinks.
