Ski Jumping

St. Moritz has a long tradition of ski jumping: the Julier jump was built here in 1905. In use until the middle of the last century, it has since fallen into disrepair. An Olympic jump was built at another location in 1926/27 in preparation for the 1928 Winter Olympics. The official opening ceremony took place on 20 January 1927. The jump became an Olympic venue for the second time in 1948.

The jump was upgraded and extended several times in the years that followed. As a result of the snow-safe conditions at 1800 metres above sea level, it was until recently used for snow training by many national teams.

The Christmas ski jumping event on 26 December is another strong tradition. In recent years this has formed part of the Continental Cup and was an annual event until 2005. In the meantime the jump has become in need of renovation. The last major event held here was the Continental Cup Ski Jump on 26 December 2005, which was won by Czech Borek Sedlák.
