Cinemas

A top venue for film premieres: the film producers’ order of preference is Paris, Rome, St. Moritz. That’s why St. Moritz often screens the latest scenes from James Bond & Co. Local "direction" is in the hands of the Scala Cinema in St. Moritz and Rex Cinema in Pontresina. Please click on the links for information on current showings.

Incidentally, in the past St. Moritz itself has often starred as a film set or been an inspiration for directors, actors and producers
. Even Alfred Hitchcock – a regular guest at Badrutt’s Palace Hotel – found his best ideas for future film classics here. The importance of a St. Moritz holiday is shown in his 1941 film "Mr and Mrs Smith", in which he pays a tribute, as it were, by promising his wife that that the next winter holiday would again be in St. Moritz. This was uttered more than once, namely by Robert Montgomery in 1941 and Brad Pitt in the 2005 remake: "We’ll go away for the first two weeks of December. We’ll romp in the snow and have lots of fun. We’ll go to this ski resort for the first two weeks of December"…

Many equally famous names from the world of the silver screen have also visited St. Moritz as well as Hitchcock. One of the best-known was Brigitte Bardot, pictured here with Gunter Sachs. And then there was Willy Bogner, a regular St. Moritz guest and advertising medium in one, who with his passion for movies repeatedly re-interpreted winter sport. Much of his work originated in the spectacular Engadin landscape, including the first sport musical "Ski Fascination", several James Bond sequences and the award-winning IMAX film "Ski to the Max". Willy Bogner’s SPORT + ART Gallery in the heart of St. Moritz presents Bogner’s productions using multimedia methods.
