Energy City
Energy City is a programme by Energy Switzerland and a prime example of how responsible actions can increase quality of life and protect the climate. The label is an award for a committed and result-oriented energy policy. Municipalities which carry the Energy City label are put through a comprehensive procedure which guides them to a sustainable energy, traffic and environmental policy. Authorities, companies and inhabitants all work closely together.
Energy City St. Moritz
St. Moritz was awarded the Energy City quality label in 2003. As an Energy City, St. Moritz is involved in various areas to ensure the rational use of energy and a healthy climate.
Several steps to becoming Energy City St. Moritz:
- Tightening cantonal energy regulations for new buildings by 20%
- Grants for improving energy efficiency of old buildings
- Doubling cantonal subsidies
- Operation of the Ludains ice rink with 100% green electricity of the "nature-made star" quality
- Continual conversion of public lighting to sodium-vapour lamps
- Introduction of ecological procurement guidelines for the St. Moritz Municipality and Tourist Office.
Energy Cities show that they think ahead. They are at the cutting edge of an innovative energy policy.
