Living in the area
Residential areas
St. Moritz Dorf: St. Moritz Dorf is built in terrace-style, extending up the slope from the lake. It has several prestigious hotels including the Badrutt's Palace Hotel and the highest number of elegant boutiques carrying famous brands. St. Moritz Dorf is a vibrant centre – so it’s hardly surprising that there are also many clubs and bars in the middle of the village. Both schools are also located in St. Moritz Dorf and the town hall – the seat of the council administration – is in the pedestrian precinct.
St. Moritz Bad: St. Moritz Bad lies on the southern edge of the lake and is considered a rather quieter place to live than St. Moritz Dorf. St. Moritz Bad is really the health resort area of the municipality. The flat plain is absolutely ideal for a variety of sports. As an example, it is the site of the Ludains ice rink and the light-athletics grounds. The Corviglia ski region is also reached directly from St. Moritz Bad. The somewhat lower rental prices also make this area a suitable place to seek a home.
Suvretta: The Suvretta slope in St. Moritz is one of Switzerland’s most sought-after residential areas. The Via Suvretta takes sixth place in the world’s top ten most expensive streets. Many famous and wealth entrepreneurs have taken up residence here in recent decades.
Champfèr: Champfèr is the neighbouring village of St. Moritz and lies between St. Moritz and Silvaplana. The boundary between the two municipalities runs along the Ova da Suvretta river, right through the village. Thus in a political sense, Champfèr belongs partly to St. Moritz and partly to Silvaplana. Most of the inhabitants are bilingual, speaking fluent German and Romansh.
Purchasing and rentals
The property market in St. Moritz is among the most attractive in the world. St. Moritz can boast a globally unique reputation thanks to the breathtaking landscape and stable values. The local property market is marked by strong interest from potential purchasers from Switzerland and outside. Switzerland has specific regulations governing the purchase of land by foreigners. As a rule, with no resident’s permit, such a purchase requires special approval by the authorities.
Because of the great demand, particularly for seasonal rentals, we recommend the earliest possible search for a property in St. Moritz. Many who are interested in renting a property widen their search to the surrounding districts of Silvaplana, Pontresina, Celerina, Samedan and Zuoz.
