The nine golden stelae, created by German artist Heinz Mack from 2012 to 2014, are seven and a half meters high and have been sent on a journey to awesome places. In St. Moritz, the sleek, geometric forms of the golden stelae create a sharp contrast to the natural surroundings with coniferous forests, snowy pastures, the frozen Lake St. Moritz, and the mountain landscape of the Upper Engadine. The stelae are covered with 850'000 light-reflecting, gold leaf mosaic stones.
The installation is located on the footpath around Lake St. Moritz near the Meierei and can only be reached on foot. The sculpture «The Sky Over Nine Columns» has already become a major attraction of the winter, and legions of visitors come to see the installation each day.
