Mountainbiking in Engadin St. MoritzRide. Sleep. Repeat.
Over the last few years, the biking infrastructure in the Upper Engadin has been significantly expanded. For instance there are three new flow trails on Corviglia alone, St. Moritz’s local mountain. Together with 400 kilometres of existing trails, the St. Moritz railway trail and classics such as the Bernina Express, there’s plenty of fun to be had on two wheels.
Flowing or with obstacles. High in the Alps or lakeside through the valleys. If you’re looking for the best single trail, most spectacular descent or most breathtaking tour, why not take advantage of some insider knowledge from the Engadin experts: bike schools organise tours almost every day throughout the summer season. The region has all the right infrastructure, with specialist bike hotels and a mountain railway that transports cyclists up to the 3,000 metre-high Piz Nairs. In short: yahooooo!
Cycling hot spot: Corviglia
Miles ahead: the Upper Engadin region has trails to suit every skill level. And the place to be is definitely Corviglia. Over the last few years, St. Moritz’s local mountain has become a magnet for avid mountain bikers. This transformation owes much to its new flow trails and "mountain bike rollercoaster" with banked curves, corrugations and jumps. The "Corviglia flow trail’s" reputation has already spread beyond Switzerland and now it’s been joined by the "Foppettas flow trail" and the "WM trail". All three are family-friendly and suitable for children aged 12 and up. The St. Moritz railway trail is a must-do for endurance riders. It takes you along the many single trails on Corviglia and Piz Nair, including a descent at an altitude of 6,400 metres.
Unbeatable classic routes
St. Moritz and the Upper Engadin have even more to offer than just flow trails and railway trails. Classic names like the "Bernina Express" to Poschiavo, the "Suvretta Loop" into Val Bever or the "Padella Panorama Tour" to Celerina sound like well tuned Shimano XTR gears to the ears of every mountain biker. Meanwhile the Upper Engadin Lake route is full of surprising contrasts set against a sublime Alpine panorama. You can opt between riding along the water’s edge or high above the lakes on exciting single trails with detours to neighbouring valleys such as Val Fex. So it appeals to laid back cyclists and daredevils alike.
